Every year the National Selection Conference is the core session of the European Youth Parliament Germany. Since 1990 this session takes place – with the aim to select two delegations to represent Germany on the International Sessions of the European Youth Parliament. In Schwerin 12 schools from all over Germany will compete in the National Selection Conference with 8 students each. During these five days in Schwerin and Dreilützow the young people will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss current topics of European politics.
The European Youth Parliament (EYP) brings together young people from 33 European countries. At more than 80 sessions per year, we debate and discuss hot topics of the European agenda. The EYP represents a unique platform with the aim of involving young people to actively take part in Europe’s development. While developing their inter-personal, analytical and language skills the delegates are also introduced to the vast cultural diversity of Europe. The ‘flagship’ events of the EYP are its annual three International Sessions.

Next year the National Selection Conference will take place in Berlin. The selection process will begin in September.
German TV channel tv.berlin aired an interview about the 21. National Selection Conference of EYP Germany in Schwerin 2011 this morning. Bettina Scholze, one of the two head organisers of the session, and Riaan Stipp, board member of EYP Germany, were asked to explain the programme of the session, which is going to start tomorrow. More than 110 delegates from 12 different German schools and two guest delegations from Denmark and Slovenia will arrive at “Schloss Dreilützow” near Schwerin to engage in lively debates about current European issues.
You can watch the 7 minute video here.
In the last days you received the Welcome Booklet with important information for the session and a list of nine different committee topics for you to choose from. You will thoroughly debate these topics during your five days in Dreilützow and Schwerin under session president Maria Manolescu from Romania. She will be assisted on the board by vice-presidents Alexandre Narayanin (France) and Christian Drews (Germany).
While you are eagerly and perhaps a bit nervously looking forward to coming to Schwerin, the orga team – led by Julius Kleindienst and Bettina Scholze – is already working hard to make the session reality. About a week ago we met in Dreilützow to explore the castle and its dark corridors and hidden vaults. After long discussions we also decided on the session motto: “Getting closer or closing up?”
Finally, enjoy the first trailer of the fabulous EYP-TV team to meet the organisers and get a glimpse of where the session will take place. Fullscreen recommended!
Congratulations! The following 12 schools have now been selected for the 21. National Selection Conference 2011 of EYP Germany in Schwerin from a total 78 applications:
All schools had to write a resolution with their proposals to reconcile European values and world religions in a more and more culturally diverse European Union. 30 jurors then evaluated their resolutions and selected the 12 best schools to participate in the National Selection Conference. In Schwerin they will compete for participation at the next two International Sessions of the European Youth Parliament in Zagreb, Croatia (Autumn 2011) and Istanbul, Turkey (Spring 2012).
